Flood Hazard Resiliency: Design Guides and Control Act Rules
Peckman River Basin, NJ Flood Risk Management Feasibility Study
1) Vince Mazzei, P.E., NJDEP – Manager, Bureau of Inland Regulation
To address the region’s flood and resiliency vulnerabilities, the NJDEP established the Flood Hazard Area Control Act Rules. Regulations were developed to address chronic flooding problems in New Jersey and their effects on social, economic, and public safety issues. Rules will be discussed in A-zones, Coastal A-zones, and V-zones. Impacts from Superstorm Sandy will be highlighted to illustrate the motivation for updated Rules for flood mitigation to ensure future development is sustainable and resilient.
2) Alek Petersen, PPMD, USACE – Project Manager, Civil Works Branch, NY District
The Peckman River flows through several municipalities in northern New Jersey prior to discharging into the Passaic River. Rainfall from storms exposes the areas within the basin to flooding damages and life safety risks due to overbank flooding. The USACE-NY District is conducting a study to examine the feasibility of implementing flood risk management measures to reduce the risk of damage to structures, their contents, and life safety.
THIS EVENT IS CURRENTLY PENDING REVIEW FOR 2 PDH CREDITS IN NY AND NJ.
